Please welcome Randy Brutkiewicz, Ph.D., to his new position as associate dean for graduate studies, effective July 1. Professor of microbiology and immunology and a member of the IU School of Medicine faculty since 1998, Dr. Brutkiewicz will be relinquishing his current position as assistant dean for faculty affairs and professional development.

As associate dean for graduate studies, Dr. Brutkiewicz will oversee the division that administers the school’s research-based doctoral degree programs, basic and applied science master’s degree program, the NIH-designated Medical Scientist Training Program (combined M.D./Ph.D.), the Physician Scholars Program; and graduate certificates programs. The division also provides support to graduate students, the academic programs and departments as well as services for postdoctoral fellows at IUSM and its associated hospitals and institutions.

Dr. Brutkiewicz succeeds Patricia J. Gallagher, Ph.D., professor of cellular and integrative physiology, who will be returning to teaching and research, where her interests focus on pathways that impact cell death or apoptosis programs in order to design molecular therapies to kill cells that are undergoing unregulated proliferation.
